Mark Chapter Fourteen

It doesn’t matter which version you choose. It can be digital or paper. You can use one of those fancy coloring bibles and do a page or coloring along with the passage.

I will mostly do Holman Christian Standard Bible because of their copyright freedoms.

  • Mk 14:1  After two days it was the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a treacherous way to arrest and kill Him. ² “Not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be rioting among the people.”

  • Mk 14³ While He was in Bethany at the house of Simon who had a serious skin disease, as He was reclining at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of pure and expensive fragrant oil of nard. She broke the jar and poured it on His head.

  • Mk 14⁶ Then Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a noble thing for Me. ⁷ You always have the poor with you, and you can do what is good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have Me. ⁸ She has done what she could; she has anointed My body in advance for burial. ⁹ I assure you: Wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.”

Make the preparations for us there.” ¹⁶ So the disciples went out, entered the city, and found it just as He had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

  • Peter, James and John taken further up, told to pray and stay awake
  • Mk 14³⁵ Then He went a little farther, fell to the ground, and began to pray that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him.
  • One: Mk 14³⁷ Then He came and found them sleeping. “Simon, are you sleeping?” He asked Peter. “Couldn’t you stay awake one hour?
  • Two: Mk 14⁴⁰ And He came again and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open.^[j] They did not know what to say to Him.
  • Three: Mk 14⁴¹ Then He came a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting?
  • Mk 14⁴² Get up; let’s go! See—My betrayer is near.”
  • Mk 14:43-50 Judas kisses, everyone else runs away.
  • Mk 14⁴³ While He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.

  • Mk 14⁵⁵ The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but they could find none.

  • Mk 14⁶¹ But He kept silent and did not answer anything. Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
  • Mk 14⁶² “I am,” said Jesus, “and all of you^[o] will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
  • Mk 14⁶⁴ You have heard the blasphemy! What is your decision?” And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.
  • Then he was beaten and mocked

  • Mk 14⁶⁶ While Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the high priest’s servants came.
  • ONE- Mk 14⁶⁸ But he denied it: “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about!” Then he went out to the entryway, and a rooster crowed.^[r]
  • TWO – Mk 14⁷⁰ But again he denied it.
  • THREE – Mk 14⁷¹ Then he started to curse^[t] and to swear with an oath, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”

Mindful Meditating

1. choose a verse,
2.  set a timer for 5 minutes, or whatever works for you.
3.  example: Mark 14:36
4. repeat to yourself, and at each word, enunciate the next word in the sentence starting with the first word…

example:

• Mk 14:36 Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
• NEVERTHELESS, not what I will, but what YOU will.
• Nevertheless, NOT what I will, but what You will.
• Nevertheless, not WHAT I will, but what You will.
• Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.

and so on.  This will cause you to look at the verse more intently, and may have you memorize it before your five minutes are done.
