First 100 Days – day 30 – Wisdom and Praise January 30

Psalm 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and Proverb 30

This is the next to the last day of a month of psalms and proverbs.  There are some from David’s Prayer Journal, one from Moses, a prayer for deliverance and a whole psalm of praising God.

Proverbs has a few interesting poetic items that make one think.

Let’s dig in.

  • Psalm 30 – a Summary of David’s Prayer Journal
    • Ps 30:1
      • I will exalt You, Lord,
        because You have lifted me up
        and have not allowed my enemies
        to triumph over me.
    • Ps 30:2
      • Lord my God,
        I cried to You for help, and You healed me.
    • Ps 30:3
      • Lord, You brought me up from Sheol;
        You spared me from among those
        going down[a] to the Pit.
    • Ps 30:4-5 NIV 
      • Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.
      • For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

      • For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

  • Psalm 60 – David’s Prayer Journal – deliver me
    • For the choir director: according to “The Lily of Testimony.”[a] A Davidic Miktam for teaching. When he fought with Aram-naharaim and Aram-zobah, and Joab returned and struck Edom in the Valley of Salt, killing 12,000.

    • Ps 60:1
      • God, You have rejected us;
        You have broken out[b] against us;
        You have been angry. Restore us![c]
      • Ps 60:2-3 – prayer
      • Ps 60:4 gave warning to those who were faithful
        • You have given a signal flag to those who fear You,
          so that they can flee before the archers.[d]Selah
        • important precursor to followers of Christ being given a warning about the Lord’s second return – when we are gone, others will reply, they were given a warning, and so did we, and we didn’t listen.
      • Ps 60:5 – rescue the rest that you love
        • Save with Your right hand, and answer me,
          so that those You love may be rescued.
      • Ps 60:6-10 the battle
      • Ps 60:11-12 we need the Lord
        • Give us aid against the foe,
          for human help is worthless.
          12 With God we will perform valiantly;
          He will trample our foes.

  • Psalm 90 – A prayer of Moses
  • Psalm 120 – Deliver me from Lying Tongues
    • Ps 120:1-2
      • In my distress I called to the Lord,
        and He answered me.
        Lord, deliver me from lying lips
        and a deceitful tongue.”
    • Ps 120:6-7
      • I have lived too long
        with those who hate peace.
        I am for peace; but when I speak,
        they are for war.
  • Psalm 150 – Praise the Lord
  • Proverb 30
    • Pr 30:4 – WE know!  Yahweh and Jesus Christ!
      • Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
        Who has gathered the wind in His hands?
        Who has bound up the waters in a cloak?
        Who has established all the ends of the earth?
        What is His name,
        and what is the name of His Son—
        if you know?
    • Pr 30:5 Go To Verse
      • Every word of God is pure;[d]
        He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
    • Pr 30:6 Go To Verse
      • Don’t add to His words,
        or He will rebuke you, and you will be proved a liar.
        • Rev 22:18  
          • I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.
        • Rev 22:19
          • And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

      • Two things I ask of You;
        don’t deny them to me before I die:
        Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me.
        Give me neither poverty nor wealth;
        feed me with the food I need.
        Otherwise, I might have too much
        and deny You, saying, “Who is the Lord?”
        or I might have nothing and steal,
        profaning[e] the name of my God.

        she eats and wipes her mouth

      • For the churning of milk produces butter,
